|10:19 am - Romance of the Rails|
After having the topic of train travel pop up during various delightful conversations at OryCon last weekend, I was prompted to finally, finally get my travel report from last Chrismas posted online. The illustrations and formatting were complex enough that I'm not inclined to figure out how to override the style sheets of LiveJournal. It was mostly laid out in Pages, then I edited the CSS by hand to tune it. Anyway, you'll have to actually travel off-Journal to read it. Enjoy.
Current Mood: productive
I may have mentioned that my family did the reverse trip in July of 1997.
Atlanta to DC,
DC to Chicago,
Chicago to Seattle,
Seattle to San Francisco,
San Francisco to Los Angeles,
LA to Flagstaff,
Flagstaff to Tucson (by bus),
Tucson to New Orleans,
New Orleans to Atlanta.
We had sleeper cars for the Chicago-Seattle and Seattle-SF-LA trips, but other than that it was all coach. That was also the trip during which I first developed a crush on Seattle.
Nice travel journal! We've ridden Amtrak many times so I could relate to pretty much everything you said. Yes, dinner with total strangers can be at the same time charming and uncomfortable. You might check http://www.pssrailfan.com
which is The Phoebe Snow Society, a national organization of gay railfans. (Not that you're a railfan
yet, but from your journal, you could become one!)
